A Soundtrack For My Chaotic Music Taste

Other from Musicals, I haven’t really talked much about what other genres of Music I’m into in my blog.

If I’m being honest, my music taste is all over the place – which I am quite grateful for, because it allows me to hit the Shuffle button with a sense of excitement instead of anxiety for what’s coming next up. There are times when I find myself listening to Pop music from the likes of Billie Eillish and the next to classics from Queen. Fun fact, I’ve been really getting into lo-fi indie and RnB lately.

But there’s a catch – the artists that I listen to, no matter the genre, must have made some effort into making a genuine sound. What I mean by this is that there has to be some emotional substance in the instrumental, voice or lyrics. Don’t get me wrong, I can jam out to any song that’s catchy during parties, albeit its shallow meaning (cough, cough, Lil Pump is a classic example). But if a song wants to end up as one of my all-time favourites, it’s got to affect me personally and sentimentally in some way.

So here you go: an amalgamation of some of my most beloved songs from all types of genres and artists. I’ve added in a verse from some of the songs that I feel has beautiful lyrics – there for your own interpretation! I’ve also included artists of different ethnicities as well, which simply adds more into the “chaotic” music taste that I’ve acquired over the years!

SOUNDTRACK:
1- I WANT TO BREAK FREE Queen
2- AND JULY Heize Ft. Dean, Dj Friz
3- SEPTEMBER Earth, Wind & Fire
4- BALANCE TON QUOI Angéle
5- ARE YOU BORED YET? Wallows ft. Clairo
6- NANDEMONAIYA Radwimps
6- SO FAR AWAY Agust D
I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self-satisfied I don't need you
I've got to break free
God knows God knows I want to break free

Queen needs no explanation.

I love, love, love the mix of Hip-hop, RnB and Pop sounds in this song – along with the playful way in which the lyrics describe a tense and confusing relationship.

Something to think about – “And July” sounds like “And you lie”.

Ba-dee ya, dee ya dee ya
Ba-dee ya, dee ya dee ya
Ba-dee ya, dee ya dee ya, dee ya!
Ba-dee ya, dee ya dee ya
Ba-dee ya, dee ya dee ya
Ba-dee ya, dee ya dee ya, dee ya!

Now, this is what I mean when not all of the songs I like needs to have heart-wrenching lyrics. September just never fails to lift my mood out of the roof which is enough for me.

This music video is absolutely one of my favourites.

'Cause we could stay at home and watch the sunset
But I can't help from asking, "Are you bored yet?"
And if you're feeling lonely you should tell me
Before this ends up as another memory
Will you tell the truth so I don't have to lie?
Will you tell the truth so I don't have to lie?
Oh yes, we are time fliers
Scaling the walls of time, climber
Tired of playing hide and seek with time and always coming just short
Crying even when you're happy
Smiling even when you're feeling lonely
It's because a part of you
Has made it here before the rest has

(English Translation)

If you liked this song, I really recommend you watch the movie! It’s all about destined love and fate, with themes of tradition, fantasy and identity.

Dream, I will be there for your creation
Until the end of your life
Dream, wherever you might be
It will be lenient
Dream, you will fully bloom
After all the hardships
Dream, your beginnings will seem humble
So prosperous will your future be

There’s a reason why BTS will always have a special place in my heart – and this is exactly why. The music the members make and their message never fails to resonate with me.

What are your favourite genres to listen to, and how would you describe your music taste?

I finally received my exam results on Thursday, and so my upcoming post will be about my IGCSE Experience, and what I’ve learned from it!

  1. Loved to see you post again, and what an interesting playlist.
As you know, I am obsessed with particular artists, so of course I listen to their songs a lot, but I have personal favourites from those artists too.
You remember I showed you the performance for Perfectly Wrong by Shawn Mendes, right? That video makes me wanna cry every single time I watch it. Speaking of sad songs, Ghostin by Ariana Grande is definitely up there for me too, though I haven’t listened to it in a while.
Other than emotional songs, I love upbeat catchy songs too (cough cough Choose by Why Don’t We). Charlie Puth’s songs are a great example of that, and so are 5 Seconds of Summer’s songs.
I could go on and on, but I’ll end this comment here. OOH Also I’m listening to Taylor Swift’s new album and some songs sound pretty good to me so check it out!

    1. Thanks for commenting as usual 🤗 Yes, I know your music taste very very well. Maybe too well! Omg, you know how much I love Ghostin too!!! You’ve gotta show me Taylor Swift’s album tomorrow, eventhough her song ME! is not my cup of tea.

  2. Obviously- I love musical theatre, but still love other songs that are not even musical theatre.

Contemporary Christian music is another genre I love- in a way, almost as good as musical theatre

The other songs I love- it is hard to describe my love for those

  3. This was such a cool post to read! It’s always interesting to read about the various types of music people listen to. For me, it’s mostly musical theatre, symphonic metal, J-pop, J-rock, and occasionally some other types of Asian pop as well! Haha, it’s crazy to see how much diversity can exist within people’s favorite genres of music!
